This is our mother. Our mother has woken up.

Nĩ mwaki araakia. One nĩekĩra ngũ.
She is lighting the fire. See, she is putting in firewood.

Ngũ i riiko. Maitũ nĩahuha mwaki.
The firewood is in the hearth (three stones). Our mother has blown the fire.

One mwaki ũgĩakana. Rĩu maitũ nĩekũruga.
See the fire starting to burn. Now our mother is going to cook.
Part 2: Boiling Water

Mwaki nĩwakana. Maitũ nĩekũruga. One thaburia.
The fire has burned. Mother is going to cook. See the pot.

Thaburia ĩna maĩ. Maitũ nĩekĩra maĩ thaburia.
The pot has water. Mother is putting water in the pot.

One akĩhagĩra maĩ. Mwaki nĩ mũnene mũno.
See her placing the water on the fire. The fire is very big.

Maĩ nĩmegũtherũka na ihenya. Maitũ nĩekũruga ũcũrũ. Nĩahagĩra maĩ ma kũruga ũcũrũ.
The water will boil quickly. Mother is going to cook porridge. She has set water on the fire to cook porridge.
